World renowned for the internationally televised "Hour of Power" featuring Reverend Robert Schuler, the cathedral is located at 12141 Lewis St. The new addition is a five-story, 57,000-sf center that will house a visitor information area, a café, a 300-seat theater, a bookstore/gift shop, exhibition space, as well as a chapel, boardroom and library. Completion of construction is expected by November 2002.

The building was designed by Richard Meier & Partners , a Los Angeles-based architectural firm. The design includes a crystal brick wall that reflects the glass construction of the Crystal Cathedral, and the facade features anodized aluminum panels with straight- and curved-glazed openings.

"The construction systems and materials will include drilled pile foundations; poured-in-place concrete walls; structural steel frame with concrete on metal decks; and interior finishes of gypsum board, stone, wood and painted steel," says Dennis Rustad, project manager for Matt Construction.
