The consolidation consists of four Fleet branches and eight former Summit Bank branches. Ten of the 12 bank branches scheduled for closure are located in Fairfield County. All consolidating branches have an alternative Fleet branch less than one mile away, FleetBoston officials note.
Consolidations are expected to begin on June 7 for former Summit branches and June 22 for Fleet branches, following completion of a 90-day notification period to customers. After completion of the consolidation program, Fleet will operate 183 branches in Connecticut.
"Looking forward, both Fleet and former Summit customers will now enjoy more branch and ATM locations, a broader product set, and enhanced services. In the meantime, these customers should experience no disruption in service due to these consolidations. They should continue to do their banking as they always have, and they will receive a detailed letter from us this week if their branch is affected," said Robert B. Hedges Jr., managing director, Retail Banking Group at FleetBoston.
The branches to be closed are: 30 Main St., in Danbury (a Summit branch); 1089 Post Road in Darien (a Summit branch); 777 Post Road in Darien (a Summit branch); 1312 Post Road in Fairfield (a Summit branch); 283 Greenwich Ave. in Greenwich (a Summit branch); 208 Elm St., in New Canaan (a Summit branch); 100 Route 37 in New Fairfield (a Summit branch); 50 Bridge St. in New Milford (a Fleet branch); 506 Westport Ave. in Norwalk (a Fleet branch); 605 West Ave. in Norwalk (a Fleet branch); 1959 Summer St. in Stamford (a Summit branch); 239 Danbury Road in Wilton (a Fleet branch).
