New Jail Visitation Area Lowers Construction Costs

ST. CLOUD, MN-A new video visitation system installed in the Sherburne County Jail, one of the Minnesota¹s largest county jails, has significantly reduced construction and operating costs while allowing expanded visiting hours. Minneapolis-based KKE Architects, working with teleconferencing firm EDC Solutions and the Minnesota Department of Corrections, helped Sherburne County authorities design the first networked jail video visitation system in the state and one of the first to be installed in a new jail facility anywhere in the US.

Video teleconferencing allowed the visitors center to be built outside the secured perimeter of the jail.

The Sherburne visitation system includes 30 public visiting booths, 27 inmate booths, three mobile stations, one control station and two VCRs for recording or playing informational videos. Video visitation connects visitor and inmate through two cameras, two monitors and a central control computer.
