FedEx declined to comment about the new facility "because nothing 's been finalized," says a company source. Sources in Spokane say the company's objective is to consolidate its air- and ground-shipping operations in the new facility, which would be built east of the airport's runway at the southeast corner of Godfrey and Flightline boulevards.

The FedEx project would dovetail with the airports' previously announced plans to construct an air-cargo apron on approximately eight acres at Spokane International in order to attract more shipping business.

Spokane-based Taylor Engineering Inc. has designed the apron, the construction costs of which are expected to run approximately $5 million. An additional $1 million is slated for the taxiway improvements.
