When the building was built in 1990, the annex was part of the original plans, which would expand each floor by about 5,500 sf. Those plans were put on hold when the real estate market took a downturn in the early 1990s. When the company announced plans to move forward with its expansion plans, the law firm Perkins Coie took the opportunity to restructure and extend its existing 36,093 sf lease to 43,929 sf.
According to Julien J. Studley, the real estate firm that represented Perkins Coie in the negotiations, the lease restructure agreement lowers the annual rent on Perkins Coie's current space and also accommodates the firm's growth by leasing expansion space in the annex upon its mid-2002 delivery. Perkins Coie has been a tenant at The Westory since 1991. The firm currently occupies the entire 7th and 8th floors of the existing building; the expansion will encompass the 7th and 8th floors of the annex.
