"The project has been referred out to the community boards for comment," said City Planning Commission spokesperson Jennifer Chait. Local community boards will now have 45 days to respond to the proposal.
Tishman Speyer, owner/manager of the Chrysler Building and Rockefeller Center, would develop the tower on property owned by Town & Country CEO Harvey Schulweis. The other half of the double block is owned by Brookfield Properties.
The NBA's retail store is at another Tishman Speyer building, 666 Fifth Ave. The NBA currently has offices in Secaucus, New Jersey as well as HQ at Olympic Tower. According to published reports, it is rumored that if the tower adjacent to Madison Square Garden is approved, the NBA will close the Secaucus office. Broker for the NBA was Jerry Cohen, formerly of Cushman & Wakefield.
