The Walnut Creek development will include a 2,660-seat cinema, 49,223 sf of ground-level retail shops and restaurants, 8,200 sf of office space and a 600-plus parking garage. Once Olympic Place opens in the summer of 2002, the nearby Festival Cinema, a dilapidated, five-screen movie theater, will be torn down, a city official with the planning department confirmed.

In their appeals both groups questioned whether the movie theater could survive given nearby Concord's 14-screen theater and development in Pleasant Hill of a 16-screen multiplex. Residents also worried about traffic woes and a shortage of parking.
