Martin Marietta is the world's second-largest producer of construction aggregates. The purchase plan had been disclosed yesterday. Brauntex, located at 1504 Wald Rd., has been the sole company to crush rock in the Chemical Line Quarry in New Braunfels. The transaction is an asset purchase for cash.

The acquisition of the crushed limestone operation will give Martin Marietta Materials an additional 750,000 tons of aggregate each year. As part of the purchase, Brauntex also has entered into an agreement for Martin Marietta to supply up to 500,000 tons of crushed stone per year for use in the local area. "We continue to expand our aggregates business in our core areas. The Brauntex transaction gives us a local market position in New Braunfels," says Stephen P. Zelnak, chairman and CEO of Martin Marietta. "The Brauntex operation complements our planned expansion at the Chemical Lime quarry in New Braunfels. These operations will furnish aggregates via rail to South Texas."
