The building has been vacant since a group of Boeing engineers left in 1995. Shortly thereafter, in July 1995, Collins LLC acquired it and the 74,400-sf lot it sits on for $3.3 million from Aetna Life Insurance Co.

A spokesperson for the trust tells GlobeSt that until now the training facilities of its apprenticeship program have been scattered among several leased locations around the Seattle area. The deal required the use of an adjacent easement to provide sufficient parking for the training center. Some remodeling will be done to the 33-year-old building prior to the opening of the facility, expected to accommodate 800 apprentices and 74 instructors and staff members.
