The estimated $500 million mixed-use project would include light industrial and manufacturing space, artists' lofts and workshops, as well as a hotel and other commercial, recreation, cultural and water-oriented uses. Other ideas include open space and a conference center, an extension of the Oakland Museum and use of a retired navy vessel as a cultural center.

The Port's Director of Commercial Real Estate Omar Benjamin describes the site as "an extraordinary opportunity for development of a new neighborhood." The RFQs are due on May 28. An information session and site tour will be held for interested developers on April 4. Port officials plan to select a developer by August.
