Simi has a permit to strip the inside of the 10,000 sf Triangle Building and is in the process of forming a renovation plan he expects will cost about $1.5 million. He spent about $2.5 million the 76-year-old Connell Jeep building. Simi says he is thinking of trying to tie the Triangle Building renovation into the other dealerships he owns nearby.
The city invested $1.8 million on street-scaping and $200,000 on façade improvements in the 1998-1999 budget year in an effort to entice developers to take an interest in the neighborhood that connects to the downtown core. At the same time more than $2.2 million in private funds were used to beautify the region.
City officials are expected to continue improvements in the area. According to one prediction, as more auto dealerships, like Cox Cadillac group, move into the area, other more diverse retailers are sure to follow.
