Dieter Huckestein, Hilton's executive vice president, says the pact is indicative of the long-standing relationship the corporation has in Houston and across the state. And, the management contract is a great addition to the Hilton portfolio of convention hotels. The company currently has hotels in San Francisco, New York, Washington, DC, New Orleans and Honolulu. Signing off the city is the Houston Convention Center Hotel Corp, an affiliate of the City of Houston.
The hotel will be located adjacent to the George R. Brown Convention Center in the CBD. The facility also includes 82,600 sf of meeting space, three restaurants, a health club and swimming pool. Sources say the planned hotel is a boon to the corridor and is needed to help lure larger convention bookings to its midst. Construction gets under way in the summer, with delivery set for late 2003.
