Charter's administrative manager John Tagge tells GlobeSt the company currently has about 75 employees at Western Washington locations. In addition to its Mill Creek headquarters, the company has three offices in Vancouver, WA and one each in Longview, Olympia and Bellingham.

As far as any relocation or consolidation of space with the local offices of Stewart Title, Tagge says, "To my knowledge there are no changes currently planned." He feels positively about the acquisition, saying, "It's a great thing for our organization to be part of a national group with their potential and relationships."

For Stewart, it means seven new locations in counties that contain 40 percent of the state's population outside of the Seattle/Tacoma megalopolis, It also gives Stewart a total of 39 locations in what the 2000 U.S. Census figures show is the 10th fastest-growing state in the country.

Stewart Morris, Jr., president and CEO of Stewart Title and co-CEO of its parent company Stewart Information Services, considers the acquisition "key" and "a strategic move for our company, given the long-term favorable outlook for the (Pacific Northwest) region."

Earlier this month, Stewart announced the acquisitions of Western Colorado Title Co. of Grand Junction, Colo., and a majority share of stock in Cuesta Title Co., of San Luis Obispo, Calif. All told, Stewart Information Services provides title insurance and related services through more than 5,400 offices nationwide.
