The Mountain Thunder Lodge will have a completed value of $87 million, says Roger Beck, senior vice president of Vail Resorts. The first phase in the five-building complex will have 80 units, with 188 planned at full build-out. Units will be priced from $450 per sf to $600 per sf, which is near the top of the market in Breckenridge as well as other Summit County resorts, including Copper Mountain and Keystone, Beck says. But it is less than many projects in places such as Vail and Beaver Creek, he adds.

A studio unit will have 516 sf; one-bedroom units will range from 612 sf to 768 sf; two bedrooms, 908 sf to 1,203 sf; and three bedrooms 1,351 sf to 1,543 sf. Amenities will include a swimming pool, hot tubs, workout facility and children's play area. "We also will have a quite large and fully equipped conference facility," Beck tells GlobeSt.com. The conference facility will have 5,840 sf.

The first phase will have two studios, 37 one-bedroom units, 36 two-bedroom units and five three bedrooms. The fully furnished units will boast natural stone fireplaces, granite tile countertops in the kitchens and either a balcony, deck or patio.

Vail Resorts hopes to receive permission from Breckenridge to build a new gondola from the ski mountain to within a couple hundred yards from the units. "If we get approval for the gondola, ski access will be very convenient," Beck says.

So far, about 200 people have shown interest in buying a unit. Beck says the turmoil in the stock market, so far, has only made a few potential buyers change their minds. About 50% of those who have shown interest in the units are from Colorado's Front Range, while the rest are scattered throughout the country.

Eventually, Vail Resorts plans to spend several hundred million dollars on developments in Breckenridge. Buyers at Mountain Thunder Lodge will get the first opportunity to buy units in future developments.
