"We're obviously monitoring what is going on and responding to market conditions appropriately," a Sycamore spokesperson tells GlobeSt.com. "We are still going ahead with developing the campus." The spokesperson emphasizes that the company is still early in the permitting process and it is unclear when the actual construction will begin. A completion date is slated for 2004 to 2005.

Sycamore's headquarters are now sprinkled throughout five buildings in this town all within a few miles of each other. "Having a unified campus makes sense for us," notes the Sycamore spokesperson. "We looked into a number of locations but this area was easiest in terms of access by existing and future employees."

Chelmsford is home to a concentration of high-tech companies. The town is about seven miles north of Route 495 and 30 miles from downtown Boston.
