Minnesota Uses Fun in Pitch to Silicon Valley

ST. PAUL, MN-Jumping on blackout woes, the state uses billboards and a Web site to stress it offers reliable power at lower rates in an effort to lure high-tech firms from Silicon Valley.

ST. PAUL, MN-”White Outs–Occasional. Black Outs–Never.” That’s what the billboards read in Silicon Valley, with an Eeb site underneath inviting commuters to click on UpgradetoMinnesota.com, a link to theMinnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development where viewers can find information on Minnesota’s workforce, business climate, business assistance programs, and “quality of life” information.

It’s part of Minnesota’s Trade and Economic Development’s new marketing campaign to lure businesses and workers from Silicon Valley and other parts of California.

“Everybody knows Minnesota has long winters,” says Gov. Jesse Ventura. “But maybe they don’t know what a great state this is for businesses, especially high-tech businesses.”
