BOSTON-The largest parcel the city needs to acquire to make room for the convention center being built here in South Boston has been purchased. The ten-acre parcel at 31 Fargo Street is right in the center of the 60-acre parcel the Boston Redevelopment Authority acquired by eminent domain two years ago. The site was acquired from a realty trust headed by Robert T. Coyne.

Susan Ellsbery of the BRA confirms for GlobeSt.com that the city settled with the site’s owner but would not confirm the price. Unconfirmed reports put the amount at $28.5 million. Reportedly, the BRA had originally offered $16.5 million for the property.
