ST. PAUL, MN-A bill for the construction of a $300-million ballpark for the Minnesota Twins squeaked past a legislative deadline Thursday when it was passed by a state Senate committee. The state and local government operations committee approved the measure for the 42,000-seat ballpark and sent it to the tax committee.

Members of that committee, however, say it is not high on their list of priorities. The bill calls for the Twins and other private sources to pay half the cost of the stadium. In addition, the Twins would guarantee repayment of a $100-million interest-free loan from the state. The stadium would also benefit from a $40-million state grant and a $10-million break in sales taxes on construction materials.
