The four-story Ocean Villas project, slated for a prime site along Coast Highway 101, would have 10,000 sf of commercial space on the bottom level and 33 condominium units would be built on top. The commercial space would house restaurants, retail shops and office space. The project, which calls for maximum density allowed by zoning for the area, also would include two row-house facilities on an adjacent lot on Tremont Street.
The project is likely to get the commission's nod because it is in an area the city has slated for redevelopment from industrial to other uses, according to Eugene Ybarra, associate city planner. In a report to the city council, he says that the residential aspect of the project would "further the redevelopment goals of increasing residential population within downtown."
The Commission will consider the project on Wednesday, Apr. 4, at 4 p.m. at its regular meeting.
