Related Group Has Inside Track on $50-Mil Retail Project

MIAMI BEACH, FL-The city commission will decide at an Apr. 18 public meeting whether to begin contract negotiations with the Miami development company on a planned 170,000-sf project in the community of North Beach in this city.

MIAMI BEACH, FL-Preferring to move cautiously, Miami Beach city commissioners deferred on a decision at its most recent meeting on whether to authorize contract negotiations on a long-planned $50-million retail project in the city’s North Beach community. The Miami Beach city commission is expected to make a final decision at its Apr. 18 meeting on whether to authorize city staff to begin contract negotiations on the planned 170,000-sf project with Miami-based Related Group of Florida Inc.

Of 86 responses to the city’s published request for qualifications, city staff ranked only three of the proposals as qualified to compete for the development contract on the four-acre, city-owned site between Collins and Harding avenues and 72nd and 73rd streets.

Besides Related Group, the city received qualified proposals from BAP Development Inc., an affiliate of the Miami-based engineering-architectural firm Bermello Ajamil & Partners, and a joint venture known as the Cornerstone/Constructa Team.
