The increase is largely attributed to the out-of-town workforce that is in the county to work on the new Kansas Speedway.
When the Speedway opens this summer, the hotel and motel tax surcharges are expected to soar. To help meet the growing demands for rooms, two hotels will open by early next year, adding 228 rooms, with more planned. Slated to open first are the Microtel Inn & Suites and the Hilton Garden Inns.
