Magic Low-Ball Offer on New Arena Construction is No Slam-Dunk

ORLANDO-The long-awaited new arena construction offer by billionaire Richard DeVos didn’t even hit the backboards. Government officials immediately rejected the offer.

At a media gathering in his 150,000-sf RDV Sportsplex in suburban Maitland, FL, DeVos said he wants Orange County taxpayers to pay 80% or $200 million of a proposed $250 million Downtown basketball court for his Orlando Magic. DeVos, co-founder of the Michigan-based Amway Corp. retail organization, would pay 4.2% or $10.5 million.

Representatives in the office of Orange County chairman Rich Crotty, tell GlobeSt.com the offer is “totally unacceptable.”
