Zoning changes are still pending, the new fairgrounds site isn't ready, and the venerable summertime fixture (this year's dates are August 22-26) will do an encore presentation on the 50 acres is has called home for almost a century and a half. A couple of issues still remain for the longer term. For one, county freeholders have to approve the fair's move to the new site--and that still hasn't happened.
Freeholder director Marcia Karrow has declined comment on when that would happen. There is opposition to the mall proposal--a local activist group called Citizens for Parkland is continuing to push for turning the site into a park. A cultural and activity center is their preferred use.
