Located at the corner of Dublin Boulevard and Tassajara Road, the $100-million mixed-use Waterford development includes 130,000 sf of retail and restaurant space and a 390-unit apartment community, both currently under construction.

An anchor tenant for the new development, Safeway's location will be a state-of-the-art supermarket that includes ATM, photo processing and other services. Construction of the Safeway is expected to be completed later this year, with a grand opening scheduled for November.

The retail portion of the development will be integrated into the residential portion by locating some retail outlets on the ground floor of the four-story apartment buildings, which featuring one- and two-bedroom units.

A four-level parking structure will allow residents easy access to their apartments. "This design was specifically created to meet the needs of our future residents," says Bob Burke, VP of Shea Properties. "We believe the parking plan is a vast improvement over traditional higher density apartment community designs that relegate residents to parking areas in garages at or below street level."

SGPA of San Diego is the architect on the retail segment of the project, while Orange-based Architects Orange are the architects on the residential segment. SD Deacon of Sacramento is the general contractor on the retail, and Wermers of San Diego is building the apartment buildings. The entire project is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2002.
