NEW YORK CITY-Following a little more than a week of speculation that Cushman & Wakefield, based here, was looking to hammer out a merger deal with Cushman Realty Corp., based in Los Angeles, C&W spokespeople have announced a press conference for this morning in the company's West 52nd Street Global Headquarters. Sources tell GlobeSt.com many see this as confirmation of the buzz and expect to hear the merger deal is at least going forward.

A spokesperson for C&W, confirming that members of the press were planning to attend, declined to say what the subject of the press conference is to be. When asked directly by GlobeSt.com if this is to announce that the merger would in fact happen, the spokesperson said, “I can't comment on that.” Calls to Cushman Realty officials were not returned.

The official press conference announcement states its purpose is “to announce a major development in Cushman & Wakefield's corporate profile that will affect the commercial real estate industry nationally.” This statement has led several industry insiders and experts to conclude that the rumors about a merger originated from within C&W itself and that the merger will in fact happen. Several sources add that this move was likely born out of C&W's desire to bolster its Pacific Coast South presence. Arthur J. Mirante II, president and CEO of C&W, the company's president of US Operations Bruce Mosler and “other industry leaders and C&W top management” will be there, according to the announcement. The open wording regarding “other industry leaders” has led sources to note this reads like a hint that officials from another company, likely Cushman Realty, will be present for the big news.

On April 2, Todd Doney, a former Cushman executive with a long history at the company, told Los Angeles reporter David Myers, “I just heard of a deal occurring.” Officials with C&W have said since the gossip mill turned out this merger theory that they cannot comment, but did add, “We explore all avenues or opportunities that will benefit our clients or shareholders.” (See http://www.globest.com/RMIOT8LAIKC.html.)

GlobeSt.com will be attending the press conference. An update to this ongoing story will be posted here following the event.
