A major challenge of the project is to emulate the Craftsman style of the past using today's construction materials and methods, all while staying within budget," saysMcCarthy Project Manager Bob Betz.

"During the pre-construction phase, McCarthy demonstrated an ability to maintain budgets and schedules on a complicated project," says Evans Hotels EVP David Cherashore. "They are maintaining this performance and also demonstrating resourcefulness in locating the unusual materials required in our design."

Included in the project is a new four-level, U-shaped addition with173 guest rooms encompassing 175,000 sf; a separate and a two-story building for presidential and governor luxury suites and spa. Other additions include a courtyard; a grand terrace overlooking the Torrey Pines golf course; and a three-level, 269-car parking structure.
