The firm's role is critical to the launch of the project, which is one of the larger site reuse programs in an old industrial area of Detroit, Atwell officials say.
Phase 1 of the ArvinMeritor facility will provide 15,000 sf of office space and 155,000 sf of manufacturing space on a 12-acre Renaissance Zone site.
The Renaissance Zone program is a collaborative effort between the city of Detroit, Wayne County, and the state of Michigan to give tax incentives to businesses for reinvesting in blighted areas of the city. Detroit has designated eight zones in the city. The Renaissance Zone program works to encourage economic stability and development within the city of Detroit.
Atwell specializes in civil engineering, land surveying, land planning and environmental services for a broad base of private sector clients. The firm was founded in 1905 and currently has 190 employees in Ann Arbor, Brighton and Washington Township
