Police reports indicate Cuddy called a co-worker on a mobile phone to report mechanical problems with a 1998, green Jeep Cherokee while driving on Interstate 95 near Boca Raton/Delray Beach. Once stopped, co-workers told police, Cuddy reported that two unidentified men approached him to offer help. It apparently was the last time anyone heard from him.
Not diminishing the fears over Cuddy's safety, officials at American Land Housing acknowledged to GlobeSt.com the disappearance has upset internal operations. Cuddy managed construction on the Cove at Scotia, a 240-unit multifamily project due to open later this spring in Hypoluxo; and the Strand, a 275-unit multifamily project due to open in mid-2002 in West Palm Beach.
"We're scrambling to try to cover Jim's responsibilities," Granvil Tracy, American Land president, tells GlobeSt.com. "Of course, right now, it's difficult from the personal and the business side."
Up until about nine months ago, Cuddy worked nearly 25 years for Arlington, VA-based Charles E. Smith Residential Realty L.P. He resided in New River Village, a Fort Lauderdale multifamily project that Smith Residential acquired last year from American Land Housing in a reported $30 million deal.
Since the disappearance, family and friends have mounted an aggressive public relations campaign in hopes of finding out what happened to him, such as issuing press releases and creating an Internet site on the World Wide Web (www.helpfindjim).
