SuperValu to Sell 2 Facilities to Rival

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN-The two centers in Perryman, MD and Suffield, CT total more than 1.2

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN-Food distribution and grocery store company SuperValu is selling two distribution facilities located in Perryman, MD and Suffield, CT to Fleming Cos., its main rival in the food distribution industry. The 600,000-sf Perryman distribution center had been dedicated to supplying Kmart, a customer that SuperValu recently lost to Fleming.

Distribution that had been handled by the 675,000-sf Suffield facility will be transferred to SuperValu’s Harrisburg, PA, facility or one of three New England distribution centers. The deal, the terms of which were not disclosed, is expected to close June 30.
