LandGrant Development Inc. and the San Diego Redevelopment Agency are partnering to build the 1.4 million-sf project, which will feature a modern, open-air shopping complex, office tower, hotel and an international pedestrian bridge connecting Avenida Revolucion in Tijuana with the heart of the project across the border in the San Ysidro section of San Diego.

The first phase of development includes a 630,000-sf open-air shopping center with retail outlet stores and several restaurants located in a food court. The project also will feature courtyards, fountains, esplanades and plazas.

More than 30 retailers have signed leases, including Banana Republic, Liz Claiborne, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Nautica, Old Navy and The Gap.

The landmark "Bridge of the Americas" over the Tijuana River is still subject to federal and local government approval. Other future phases include a transportation terminal, an office tower, a hotel and conference center and possibly a cultural center.

The bridge "will represent the strengthening relationship between our two nations," says C. Samuel Marasco, president of LandGrantDevelopment. "With the traffic issues and the millions of people that come to this region every year, we've known that San Diego has needed this bridge and marketplace for a long time, and the public voice confirmed our beliefs."

"The International Gateway of the Americas will turn a neglected area into a much needed marketplace, where people can meet, shop andsocialize," adds San Diego City Councilmember Ralph Inzunza, whose district includes the border area.
