Sisters of Charity, which operates the hospital, have said the hospital will lose about $10 million this year. The outpatient center is expected to lose money also -- to the tune of $2.5 million the first year. While it is licensed for 415 patients, the acute-care daily average at Bethany is usually between 40 to 50.
The Bethany campus, at 51 N. 12th Street, contains a 460,000-sf hospital and 60,000-sf medical office. The outpatient center will use 21,000 sf of the main hospital and all of the the medical building. Sisters of Charity officials hope to find tenants for the remaining space. The conversion is expected to take place in July.
