Locke wants the United States Department of Veteran Affairs and Medicaid to head the funding to redevelop the extended-care center into the first Eastern Washington veteran's home. The center would be run by the State of Washington with some financial support coming from veterans' monthly checks.
Locke recently ordered the state Department of Social and Health Services and the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs to develop a "memorandum of understanding" for the center."Serving all veterans is the right thing to do," Locke said. "Equitable, long-term care in Eastern Washington is long overdue.
"Not only is there a critical need for care, we owe a great debt and moral obligation to provide for those who fought to protect our freedom."
