The high-tech office can be found on the 15th floor of Legacy Tower, in the CBD's heart at 17th and California streets. It has taken almost three years, $2.5 million and 60 partners to put together the office, which will be open for tours during the next year by the nonprofit Workplace 2010 Inc. The project is a showcase for efficiency, productivity and creativity.

Denver-based RNL Design, the largest architectural firm in the Rocky Mountain region, and OfficeScapes/Scott Rice, the largest commercial real estate office supplier in the region, has created the concept. Project partners include Steelcase Inc., Nortel Networks, Compaq Co., Panja, Digital Roads, Legacy Partners, I-Media World, Haselden Construction and Ove Arup & Partners.

The office is broken into seven specific workspaces. The "playground" is a fun area designed for high-energy dialogue and brainstorming. The space includes toy ray guns, beach balls and a comfortable swinging chair. The allocated "convergence" space is a high-tech meeting area for presentations, training, and education and global communications. The "Info Bar" tries to be as comfortable as a neighborhood cafe and also has high-tech amenities. The dishwasher can be programmed in 20 languages. "Your room" is a spot for quiet solitude. The "campsite" is dedicated to team and collaborative sessions. Home base most resembles a conventional office and is geared to autonomous, individualized work. The technology hub provides an inside look to all the high-tech equipment that normally is hidden from view.

In a tour, Amy Tabor, executive director of Workplace 2010 Inc., points out to GlobeSt.com that the space is extremely flexible. For example, all furniture can easily be wheeled from one space to another. Tabor says that probably not every company will want or need all of the ideas presented in the space, but it could work as easily for a dot-com as it could for a church or business.
