The new location is part of an ongoing expansion in the Northeast corridor, and in fact this deal was announced simultaneously with four other such deals in Queens, Long Island and New Jersey. These five are part of a larger picture of more than 60 recent new stores. The company is in the process of an overall national rollout as well.
Best Buy officials say the new location will create 150 new jobs, combining full- and part-time help. The chain expects the same figures at its planned total of New York stores by 2004. The chain first entered the market here last year with 15 stores in New York and New Jersey.
Best Buy is based in Minneapolis and sells consumer electronics, personal computers, entertainment software and appliances. There are now a total of 1,800 locations in the US, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
