Patrick McCarthy, Patrick McDonald and Matthew Galvin, part owners of the Pagliacci chain of pizza stores, have reached an agreement to buy the DeLaurenti Specialty Food Market, raising the anxiety level of other Pike Place Market owners who fear the potential influence of national chains.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Meredith Getches, Seattle's chief hearing examiner, said local operators could appeal the decision on grounds the transaction "would not be in the best interests of the Pike Place Market."
Commonly known as "The Market" by locals and shoppers, the area is the primary urban outlet for craftspeople and farmers. Some of them have threatened to appeal the ruling to the King County Superior Court. An appeal could possible delay a potential sale for months.
