East Bay manufacturers and retailers find the city-offered incentives and the accessible space in Oakland attractive. Recent deals include the 10-year lease on 214,200 sf in Edgewater Industrial Center inked by Burlingame-based Metropolitan Furniture Corp. The 396,500 sf industrial center includes warehouse, distribution, manufacturing and office uses and is located across from the Oakland Coliseum and minutes from Oakland International Airport. The rate is about 52 cents per sf per month, according to industry sources. San Francisco-base AMB Property Corp is the owner.
Two former tenants of what was the Jack London Village complex have signed five-year leases with the Port of Oakland for space at the recently renovated Jack London Square. One business is taking 2,00t sf at an effective monthly rent of $1.84 sf and another has signed for 750 sf. for an effective rate of $1.80 sf. Julie Braun, a commercial representative for Jack London Square Management negotiated both sides of the leases. According to her reports the retail portion of the complex is 89% leased, with 12,000 sf available. The office portion is fully leased.
