ATG to Lay Off 12% of Work Force

CAMBRIDGE, MA-In what has become practically a rite of passage for tech firms here, Art Technology Group is laying off 150 employees or 12% of its workforce. The locally-based developer of online customer management and electronic commerce software reportedly stated that the layoffs are part of an overall cost reduction plan for the company that will include real estate consolidation.

The company also stated that reduction in salaries and consultant contracts will be coming. While the company has facilities throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, most of the workforce reduction will come from its headquarters here. The Massachusetts office houses about half of the company’s 1,200 employees.
