City Wants Bridge Removed to Spur Development

FERNDALE, MI-A boulevard could expand the Woodward Avenue area's business potential at least four times what it is now with the Eight Mile Road overpass, the city manager says.

FERNDALE, MI-The city has convinced the Michigan Department of Transportation to scrap a plan to rebuild the large Woodward Avenue overpass on Eight Mile Road. The overpass gives drivers 12 lanes of traffic to cross Eight Mile, widely seen as the infamous border between Detroit and the affluent suburbs.

Ferndale City Manager Tom Barwin says the suburb would rather have a four- to six-lane boulevard, similar to the rest of Woodward, to eliminate huge billboards and boost community awareness and development.
