London-based Bass, which staffs a Latin American regional headquarters operation in Miami, is consulting with Coral on the 208-room, $16 million hotel in Santo Domingo and the 200-room, $14 million lodge in Santiago, according to a prepared statement from Bass.

Both projects are scheduled to open in the summer of 2003. The sites are 843 miles south of Downtown Miami.

Scheduled to break ground this spring, the Santiago property will include 10,800 sf of meeting space, in addition to two restaurants and a casino. New York architect Alan Lapidus is designing the project in the city's commercial district at Autopista Duarte and Avenida Rafael Vidal.

Coral Hotels owns and operates 1,900 hotel rooms on the Caribbean island. The company also plans a 22-story hotel on El Malecon, a Santo Domingo seaside thoroughfare, in addition to a casino, retail shopping mall, commercial office space and residential condominiums.
