Feinstein told more than 25 CEO's during the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group luncheon that the state is facing an energy crisis and it is important to the future of the state to build the plant. She also added with the possibility of blackouts now and in the future Californians must consider every source of energy.

The power plant proposed by Calpine Corp of San Jose and the Bechtel Group of San Francisco needed to secure permits but were denied along with the zoning changes they requested. The facility is proposed for land adjacent where Cisco is planning a 20,000-worker campus. The matter is before the California Energy Commission.
