Hospitality consultant Jenner Hotel Associates had Meri Meis design the new lobby, guest rooms, boardrooms and conference rooms. Meis has gained national recognition for her outstanding work in hotel designs for clients including Hilton and Sheraton as well as on other Raddison hotels.

The hotel renovation was designed to highlight the hotel's lake and garden views and embraces a residential look combined with business functional amenities. "The guest rooms have not been done in at least 10 years and so the renovation was long overdue," said Murray Dow, president, Dow Hotel Company. "Our goal is to bring the hotel up to the standard that it had when it opened and to grow with the expanding market we are seeing in the Sacramento area."

Dow says the renovations were in part an effort to stay aggressive in the market the meet its competition head on. "We also have big plans for the future," adds Dow. "Right now were are currently in the entitlement phase to complete further renovations and build a new building on the premises; We're planning on spending more than $12 million to build a new 120-rooom tower and exhibit hall."

Dow says he hopes to have all the necessary entitlements by the end of May in order to break ground by the end of the year. According to a report published by the Sacramento Visitor's Bureau the number of tourists, business and leisure related travelers seeking limited and extended stays in the Sacramento area have grow form 6.7 million in 1998 to more than 8.7 million visitors in 2000. The report also says that the 2000 daily spending rate per day in Sacramento was more than $86 per day up more than $9 from 1998.
