The council purchased the property -- a five-story mill and more than 28 silos -- for $69,000 after the assessors office held an auction for the property no one bothered to bid on it. The city scooped it up for taxes owed. Now the city hopes to move forward with plans to redevelop the site into offices and retail space.

According to city officials the site will stand as one of its most challenging redevelopment projects to date. The redevelopment agency has not yet said if or when they will entertain ideas from developers but if the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors approves it, then the city is one step closer to seeing the mill conversion happen. The board votes on the issue April 24.
