Armato released a statement with the message "although I regret leaving with many long-range initiatives still in progress, I am proud of what we accomplished." A spokesman for the Bellevue Downtown Association said Armato's deal was significant and that it would not be matched.

Armato's resignation was the second big downtown announcement in less than a month. Sarah Langton left the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce at its chief executive officer three weeks ago. Langton, who was credited with steering the Eastside to a clearer understanding of its transportation challenges, was replaced by Betty Nokes.
