SAN JOSE-Cisco Systems said last week it has halted development of an 8,000-worker campus in Alviso indefinitely and will delay by at least a year development of a 10,000-worker industrial park in Fremont. The moves are being made to pace its growth with the slowing market for its networking products.

Two of 10 buildings on the Alviso campus near Highway 237 and Grand Avenue are being left partially completed. In Fremont, city official learned last week that Cisco would not be breaking ground on its 3.4-million-sf campus until next fall at the earliest. The Fremont campus comprises 45% of Catellus Development Corp.’s Pacific Commons business park.

With a five-year window to start construction, Cisco said plans have no changed with regard to its would-be $ 1.3-billion world headquarters in North Coyote Valley on the south edge of San Jose.
