City Sued for Alleged Illegal Dealings with Housing Agency

SANFORD, FL-Central Florida Legal Services, representing two tenants at the six building, 450-unit HUD-owned apartment complex, charges Sanford violated the state's Sunshine Law by voting behind closed doors to oust the five-member Sanford Housing Authority and its $113,000-a-year executive director.

SANFORD, FL-The entire lawsuit may be moot, but the Central Florida Legal Services is pressing on, trying to show the city commission acted illegally when it voted behind closed doors two weeks ago to oust the five-member Sanford Housing Authority and its $113,000-a-year executive director.

The suit, filed in Seminole Circuit Court here, wants to bar the city from temporarily running the agency and from appointing new members to the agency, actions the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is currently trying to coordinate.

HUD owns and funds 450 units in six buildings rented to low-income families in this blue-collar city of 37,000 residents, 30 miles north of Downtown Orlando.
