Danziger had planned to add another 400 properties through franchise agreements, acquisitions and development. He didn't quite make that goal. Carlson Hotels Worldwide now includes 723 locations in 64 countriesunder the brands of Regent International Hotels, Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, Park Hospitality, Carlson Vacation Ownership and Carlson Lifestyle Living.

Danziger, 47, began his hotel career as a bellman at the Fairmont Hotel San Francisco when he was 16; eight years later he was managing a hotel. In 1996, Danziger became president and chief executive officer of Starwood Lodging, the largest hotel operating company in North America. Two years later, after Starwood merged with Seattle-based Westin Hotels, he leftStarwood to go to Carlson.

Curtis Nelson, president and chief executive officer of Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, says Danziger helped develop the various brands of Carlson Hotels Worldwide during his tenure as president.

The presidents of the Carlson hotel brands and leaders of support departments which had reported to Danziger will be reporting directly to Nelson until a replacement is named for Danziger.

A native of San Francisco, Danziger will be leaving the hotel industry to relocate back to California where his family resides. The resignation is effective May 9.
