WHITE PLAINS-Because a number of airlines are defying the voluntary nighttime flying ban at Westchester County Airport, County Executive Andrew Spano has signed a bill into law that he hopes will deter travelers from booking early morning flights. The legislation will close the parking garage at the airport from 12:30 a.m. to 5:50 a.m. beginning May 1. The voluntary nighttime flying ban runs from midnight until 6:30 a.m.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to take this serious step,” Spano says. “But we have been forced to do this by the arrogance of Continental Airlines and the other commercial airlines that regularly and deliberately ignore our request that they not fly between midnight and 6:30 a.m.”

County government officials note that Westchester does not have the legal authority to impose a mandatory curfew.
