"The new research and development building will consolidate ATL's engineering forces and resources into a common location," said ATL's James Rupple, project development coordinator. "This project is the third in ATL's 17-year history with MulvannyG2."

Gerry Gerron, MulvannyG2 vice president, designed ATL Campus Building A in 1983 and ATL Campus Building B in 1998. Gerron also designed Campus Building C, which ATL purchased from Eldec.

"With the new building bounded by other buildings, parking, wetlands and significant utilities, the tight site location was one of our biggest design challenges," said Chris Quandt, MulvannyG2's lead architect on the project. "To preserve as much of the existing landscaping as possible, we designed the site to include previously established campus development phases."

The new building integrates several features and designs from the three existing buildings, including a strong architectural and pedestrian connection with the administration building. A new landscape courtyard will serve as an outdoor dining space for the campus cafeteria and central gathering spot for individual and group activities.

Baugh Construction is the contractor for the new building. The entire project is scheduled for completion in February 2002.
