Activity Robust in Dutchess Empire Zone

POUGHKEEPSIE-Companies certified in the Poughkeepsie/Dutchess County Empire Zone report continued gains in job growth and investments. Last year, the 155 businesses invested a total of $507 million in facilities and equipment.

POUGHKEEPSIE-A total of $507 million was invested in facilities and equipment by the 155 businesses actively participating in the Poughkeepsie/Dutchess County Empire Zone last year. The zone, which was designated by New York State in July 1994, encompasses parcels in Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill.

The number of firms certified as zone companies doubled in the year 2000 compared to the year before. In 2000, those organizations created 1,564 new full-time positions and since the zone was established they have developed 5,851 jobs and more than $1.3 billion in investment. In Poughkeepsie, they were responsible for 103 new positions and overall investment of $13.7 million.
