Rail Car Assembler Leases Mare Island Space

VALLEJO, CA-Demand for industrial space at Mare Island, the former Navy base here, is running high, according to a report from a leasing agent for CB Richard Ellis. Three recently completed subleases at the property include a total of nearly 120,000 sf.

Boston-based Kinkisharyo USA, the U. S. arm of a major Japanese manufacturer leased 100,000 sf to use for the assembly of light-rail cars for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, according to Roger Tarleton, agent for CB Richard Ellis. Richmond-based manufacturer of chainsaw maintenance tools, Granberg International leased 12,000 sf and Expertees, a Corvallis, Oregon producer of promotional t-shirts will move into 7,500 sf. The terms of each lease run for about three years and rents were priced to increase to market level by 2004.
